Mascot were appointed as Project Managers and Contract Administrators for the extension to B Braun's existing CAPS Building, with the works undertaken with the existing facility operational.
The works were undertaken as two contracts. The first building contract was for the construction of the new structural steel framed buildings; part 3 storey and part single storey, to form new clean rooms for the manufacturing process, offices and warehouse facilities. The second contract was for the specialist work in construction and commissioning of the clean rooms.
As Contract Administrator, Mascot were fully involved in the construction process and co-ordination between the two contracts. Both contracts were procured under a Design and Construct contract.
The existing CAPS Building required strengthening to the structure for snow loadings, this work had to be undertaken out of normal operational hours for health and safety reasons. Measures had to be implemented to segregate the building works from day to day operations including forming tunnels for access, fire escape routes, timing of deliveries and waste collection etc.
Weekly co-ordination meetings were held with the Contractors to co-ordinate deliveries and working areas throughout the construction period which proved to be invaluable to mitigate disruption to B Braun operations.
