Bickershaw Country Park

Bickershaw Country Park was part of the National Coalfields Programme and comprised approximately 190 hectares of brown field land, predominantly representing the spoil tip areas of the former Bickershaw Colliery.

Mascot were sub-consultants to Scott Wilson on this project.

Wigan MBC intended to remediate and remodel the site to create a new Country Park, providing:

  • 18 hole golf course, driving range and pitch and putt
  • Activity Centre
  • Visitor Centre with catering facilities
  • Country Park with pedestrian, bridle and cycle ways
  • 2mw wind turbines

The total value of the project was £16.6m and was funded through English Partnerships, NCP and ERDF with a contribution from WMBC.

Funding for the project was withdrawn in April 2009 just as work was to commence on site.
